Journal of Missionary Media (JMM) applies a rigorous and transparent double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of every published article.

1. Submission Check

Upon submission, the manuscript is first reviewed by the editorial office to ensure:

  • Alignment with the journal's focus and scope

  • Compliance with formatting and author guidelines

  • No plagiarism (checked using Turnitin or equivalent software, with a similarity threshold of max. 20%)

If the manuscript passes this stage, it proceeds to peer review. Submissions that do not meet basic criteria will be desk-rejected.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review

JMM uses a double-blind review system, in which:

  • Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers

  • Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors

Each manuscript is reviewed by two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

3. Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Relevance to the journal scope

  • Originality and contribution to knowledge

  • Theoretical and methodological rigor

  • Clarity and organization of writing

  • Ethical compliance in research and citations

4. Review Outcomes

The possible outcomes from the peer review process are:

  1. Accept without revision

  2. Accept with minor revisions

  3. Major revisions required (resubmission and second review)

  4. Reject

Authors will receive anonymized review comments and a decision letter. In cases of conflicting reviews, a third reviewer or the editorial board will make the final decision.

5. Timeline

  • Initial editorial screening: 3–7 days

  • Peer review process: 4–6 weeks

  • Total time to decision: approx. 6–8 weeks

6. Revisions and Resubmission

Authors must submit revised manuscripts along with a point-by-point response to reviewers’ comments. Failure to adequately address reviewer concerns may lead to rejection.

7. Final Decision

Final acceptance is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewers’ recommendations and the author’s revisions. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting and layout before publication.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts and review materials are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality and declare any conflicts of interest.
