The Future of Scholas Occurrents for Indonesian Education, Focusing on Inclusive Value Formation for Generation Z and Alpha

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the future of Scholas Occurrents (SO) as a global educational movement in the Indonesian context, with particular focus on its potential for cultivating inclusive moral values among Generation Z and Generation Alpha. Founded by Pope Francis in 2013, SO operates through three pillars art, sport, and technology, as universal languages that transcend cultural, religious, and socioeconomic boundaries. Drawing on in-depth interviews with key figures, including Mgr. Paskalis Bruno Syukur OFM, Fr. Habel Jadera, Fr. Lucius Joko, and members of the Scholas Occurrents Indonesia board, this study employs a phenomenological approach to explore perceptions, challenges, and opportunities for SO's implementation in Indonesia. Findings reveal that SO presents a transformative educational model highly relevant to Indonesia's plural context, capable of addressing the moral and ethical deficit increasingly visible among digital-native generations. The study highlights three critical dimensions: the alignment of SO's philosophy with Indonesia's Pancasila values, the role of digital technology as a bridge for inter-cultural dialogue, and the urgency of institutional support from the Catholic Church hierarchy. This article contributes to the growing discourse on faith-based education, inclusive pedagogy, and character formation for younger generations in the Global South.
