Abstract

Amidst the prevailing marginalization of indigenous culture in Indonesia, the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord Jesus (HKTY), situated in the southern region of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, stands as a remarkable anomaly. It serves as an oasis in the discourse surrounding the harmonious and tolerant coexistence of religion with local culture. The HKTY Church in Ganjuran represents an epitome of the inculturation of the Catholic faith with the spiritual essence of the indigenous Javanese community known as Kejawen. Employing the Teun van Dijk's discourse analysis and Actor Network Theory (ANT) pioneered by Bruno Latour, this research aims to explore the intricate relationship between Catholicism and Kejawen by conceptualizing it as a dynamic network encompassing both human agents and material objects.
